The country proved to be in a better position to handle big international games during the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association events held in Arusha.

About 4000 participants attended the FEASSSA games in Arusha which brought to the Northern City, schools from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania for the events.

“Tanzania has hosted more people than we usually see during much bigger international events, which means the country can easily handle world school sports championships,” said Petrynka.

In fact, this is the second time that Tanzania hosts the regional games at the same venues in Arusha.

According to the ISF President, having seen the capability, they are now proposing Tanzania to start hosting International School Sports Federation games and world championships in future.

Regarding challenges faced by schools during such international games, the ISF President said the federation is aware that many institutions cannot afford transport and accommodation to participants.

“We are arranging to now start supporting the regional federation to foot some bills,” said Petryinka.

On his part, the technical advisor for the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association, Leonard Thadeo said Tanzania has enough facilities and infrastructure to host international games.

The Technical advisor pointed out that the world school championships 2023 will be staged in Brazil and the country will use the opportunity to learn more.

“And already the ISF is seeing ways of supporting some African Countries to attend and participate in the International Games in Brazil next year,” pointed out Thadeo.

The FEASSSA games of 2022, included sports such as Rugby, Soccer, Netball, Volleyball, Hockey, Basketball, Swimming, Athletics and Handball among other events.

Venues for the games include Braeburn International, Tanganyika Game Trackers (TGT), Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium, Gymkhana Club and the former International School of Moshi (ISM).
