Young Tanzanian Footballers prepare for Spain and Swedish soccer tournaments in 2024

The year 2024 will be quite a busy pack of twelve months for young footballers from the Magnet Sports Academies in Tanzania, as they get to participate in a number of international football tournaments in Spain and Sweden.

Four teams of young footballers will be flying to Madrid, Spain to participate in the annual MadCup which is scheduled to run from June 21 to 26, 2024.

The MadCup tournament involves both boys and girls teams in various categories from Under-7 to Under-19 age brackets from more than 30 countries around the world.

MadCup, a prestigious sporting event, is usually organized in collaboration with the Atlético de Madrid Academy.

Magnet Sports is outfitting four teams for the soccer tourneys including the Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 players.

“We are also sending four teams to play in the Gothia Cup which is the largest and most international youth football tournament in the world which is held in Sweden,” explained Mwalimu Chalamila, the trainer and coordinator of Magnet Sports Academy in Arusha.

Held annually, the Gothia Cup tourneys usually take place in Gothenburg, the capital of Västra Götaland County, where around 1700 teams from 80 nations take part and they play 4500 games on 110 pitches.

This year, the Gothia Cup will take place from July 14 to 20, 2024 in Vastra Gotaland, Sweden.

The Magnet Sports Academy with ten training camps, two centers based in Arusha and eight others operating in Dar-es-Salaam usually recruit and groom young footballers aged between 4 and 19 years.

With nearly 400 candidates to date, Magnet Sports provide basic training in football to build the youth’s foundation in the world’s most popular sport, sharing the training philosophy with Celta De Vigo Academy of Spain where they usually borrow their teaching manuals.

In Arusha Magnet operates from the Don Bosco center and Saint Constantine International School grounds, they also have other eight centers doing the same in Dar-es-salaam City.

Last year, Magnet Sports managed to finish in the third position in the Under-15 teams category in the MadCup of Madrid Spain.
