Serengeti has once more bagged the top ‘Africa’s Leading National Park 2022,’ Award.
Serengeti National Park was declared winner in the just released World Travel Awards results for the African Continent announced during the WTA Gala held in Nairobi City.
As it happens, Serengeti has been winning the ‘Leading National Park’ Award in the WTA for four times consecutively.
Serengeti was also the WTA winner in 2021 and previously also in 2020 as well as in 2019.
This Tanzania’s third largest park is famous for the annual Wildebeests Migration.
It is also the first National Park to be established in the country after being upgraded from Game Reserve in 1959. Tanzania boasts 22 National Parks as of now.
The Serengeti National Park is also one of the seven World Heritage Sites in Tanzania.
The endless plains are home to more than 2 million ungulates, 4000 lions, 1000 leopards, 550 cheetahs, innumerable hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, rare rhinos, gazelles and some 500 bird species.
Geologically it is also a precinct of outstanding rock formations protruding a vast grassy plain covering nearly 15,000 square kilometres.
It was also a double win for Serengeti this year, because one of the properties operating within the National Park has also won an outstanding award.
Four Seasons, Four Times
The Four Season Safari Lodge of Serengeti has once more grabbed the ‘Africa’s Leading Luxury Safari Lodge 2022,’ during the World Travel Awards.
Last year, the same Lodge won the ‘World’s Leading Safari Resort Lodge Award,’ a title that the property also won previously in the 2020 WTA results.
The Four Seasons Safari Lodge also happens to be the 2022 Tanzania National Parks’ Award Winner in the hospitality industry category.
But while Serengeti has been winning the leading National Park title for Four times in a row, the Four Seasons Resort keeps winning for nearly ten times now.
Tanzania entries that Lost the WTA race
Kilimanjaro National was nominated alongside Serengeti, but like last year Africa’s highest peak lost to the rather flatter Table Mountain of Cape-Town, in South Africa.
For some reason, the Ngorongoro Crater has never been lucky in the WTA awards despite being nominated several times.
The Gran Melia Hotel of Arusha, which won the WTA award last year somehow also got pushed out of the continental ivory tower this year.
Melia however wins the National award of being the leading Tanzania’s top Business Hotel.
