Rains may pound until July 2024 but hot weather spells should also be expected around Eastern Africa Region

It seems the ongoing heavy rains spell drenching most parts of East Africa won’t be abating soon.

Latest forecast from the Inter-Governmental Authority of Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC) indicates that the precipitation may sustain from May to July 2024.

ICPAC is an organization that is dedicated to providing warning against climatic hazards and destructive weather to its member countries.

“Wetter than usual conditions are expected over equatorial and northern parts of the Eastern African region for the May to July season,” reads part of the ICPAC release.

The report also indicates that temperatures are expected to be warmer than usual over most parts of the region. 

Now as far as the Rainfall Forecast for May 2024 is concerned, the forecast predicts wetter than usual conditions that are expected over equatorial parts of the region, including Somalia, Southern parts of Ethiopia, Central to Eastern South Sudan and much of Uganda.

The rains will also be experienced in the Western and Coastal parts of Kenya, few places in Rwanda, as well as in the Northern and Coastal regions of Tanzania.

But there are also hot spells during the period; for instance drier than usual conditions should be expected over a few areas of southern Somalia, north-western south Sudan, and central Uganda. 

The rest of the region is generally dry during this month.

Temperature Forecast for May 2024

Warmer than usual conditions expected over most parts of the Eastern Africa precincts. 

Near normal temperature conditions are expected over localized areas in the central parts of Tanzania, that is Dodoma, Singida, Tabora and parts of Iringa and Manyara Regions.

Seasonal Rainfall Forecast for May to July 2024

Wetter than usual conditions expected over most parts of the northern sectors of the region, specifically in much of Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Uganda, and western and coastal Kenya.

Drier than usual conditions will be experienced in some isolated areas of southern Somalia, western Ethiopia, western Sudan and central Uganda.

Seasonal Temperature Forecast for May to July 2024

Warmer than usual temperatures indicated over the whole region.

The highest probabilities are indicated over parts of Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, eastern Kenya and the coastal strip of Tanzania.

About IGAD

IGAD is the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. This organization was actually founded in 1996 in the Eastern portion of Africa.
The organization’s main goal is to help with problems in the community of drought and development. They replaced another organization called IGADD, which Africans had been utilizing since 1896.

Africa has always been home to severe natural disasters, mostly floods and famine.

The greatest region, which seems to be hit by these economic downturns, is the Eastern portion. While there has been great help from the international community, the problems superseded the resources and many still suffer.

The Mission of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development is to help the people of Africa to have food and to promote a peaceful existence.

They also oversee security and economic situations. Together with the six countries that make up this organization, they try to create harmonious living environments, which also affect all fields of business and everyday life. They encourage and enable foreign trade, which is essential to African survival.
