Tanzania wrestles back trophy from Kenya in Ladies Golf Open 2023

Vicky Elias, the player from Lugalo Golf Club of Dar-Es-salaam has emerged the overall winner in the Tanzania Ladies Open Golf 2023 with a gross win of 233.

“Last year the trophy went to Kenya but I am glad to have managed to win back the crown,” said Vicky, the winner.

The first runner up in the ladies golf tourney was Madina Idd from Arusha Gymkhana with 234 gross win, while the third winner was a Kenyan golfer, Ashley Awuor who grossed 235.

This year’s Sterling Tanzania Ladies Open Golf was held at the Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate for three consecutive days. It was organized by the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union.

The event included the Professional Golf competition in which Nuru Mollel from Arusha Gymkhana won with 148 gross and awarded 2.5 million/- while the second winner was Isaac Wanyeche from Kili golf who pocketed 1.5 million/- from his 150 gross win.

The Division A’ winner was George Sembi who managed to amass 145 gross, followed by Julius Mwizani with a 149 gross win.

For the Division B’ category, Martin Kiula got 136 gross while the first runner-up was Kepha Mbise who grossed 143.

In the Division C’ category Wenhao Cheo topped the bill with 135 gross, while Shane Pandit who also grossed 135 by countback, was listed second.

This year’s instalment of Tanzania Ladies Golf Open was held in Arusha from 15 to 17 of September, 2023 at the Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate on the slopes of Mount Meru in Arusha.

Tanzania strived to wrestle back the trophy, which was snatched up by Kenya through their player, Naomi Wafula who shone brightly during the previous golfing event of last year.

According to Yasmin, the Ladies Golf Open 2023, sponsored by Sterling Surfactants Limited.

Sterling produces full range of liquid surfactants.

In addition to the main event, Ladies Golf Open featured other side sporting episodes such as Profession Players Competition, which will feature the one and only Professional Lady Golfer, Angel Eaton from Lugalo Club of Dar-es-salaam.

“The Tanzania Ladies Golf Union supported Angel Easton in the event as she is the only candidate who has managed to break barriers in the sport,” said Yasmin.

Other events during the TLGU tour included youth golf category, different divisions as well as events for amateur golfers.

All golf clubs from other regions of Tanzania participated in the TLGU event, including teams from Morogoro, Kilimanjaro and Dar-Es-salaam.

There were also foreign teams from other countries including clubs from Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and Zambia set to participate in the Sterling Ladies Open.

“Ladies Golf tourneys are growing in popularity and we are now witnessing the emergence of more players, including professional golfers from Tanzania who are ready to tackle international events,” said Yasmin 

Madina Idd, is one of the Tanzanian Lady golfers who participated in this year’s event.

“We were clearly determined to bring back the cup,” she assured.

Other top lady golfers in Tanzania include Neema Olomi, Vicky Elias, Ayne Magombe and Hawa Wanyeche.
