Halotel records fastest data speed in Tanzania. TTCL has the slowest

A median data download speed of 17.63 Megabytes per second makes Halotel the fastest mobile operator in Tanzania during the third quarter of year 2022.

The state-owned, Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited, or TTCL performs badly in the speed test, with a measly 5.12 Megabytes per second, tagging last among the six operators tested.

These quarter three survey results feature Speedtest Intelligence data from 34 countries in the Ookla Market Reports.

Vodacom Tanzania, which records a download speed of 13.63 Megabytes per second, now becomes the second speedier mobile operator in the country as far as data connection is concerned.

Airtel Tanzania comes third, having listed the median download speed of 11.61 Megabytes per Second.

Zantel and Tigo are both owned by a single firm, which should explain why the two providers feature same download speeds of 6.01 megabytes per second, among the slowest.

Speedtest Global Index rankings are based on median download speed to best reflect the speeds a user is likely to achieve in a particular market.

In Tanzania, Halotel a cellular service provider powered by Viettel of Vietnam has been topping the speed tests in almost all previous tests.

Safaricom of Kenya is the fastest in East Africa with a download speed of 22.2 Megabytes per second.

The Speedtest Global Index now ranks median internet download speeds in nearly 200 cities all over the world.

Dar es Salaam with 13.90 Megabytes per second, showed the fastest median mobile download speed among Tanzania’s most populous cities during Q3 2022.

Mwanza is second with 13.45 Mbps, as Arusha comes third with 11.29 Megabytes by second.

Mbeya download speeds peak at 11.13 Mpbs while Dodoma, which should be the country’s capital city has a measly 7.28 Mpbs.

Africa latest Speed-test results

  • Côte d’Ivoire: MTN was the fastest mobile operator with a median download speed of 16.73 Mbps. CANALBOX was fastest for fixed broadband at 44.34 Mbps.
  • Kenya: Safaricom had the fastest median download speed over mobile at 22.19 Mbps. Faiba was fastest for fixed broadband (25.66 Mbps).
  • Libya: Almadar Aljadid was the fastest mobile operator in Libya during Q3 2022 with a median download speed of 12.42 Mbps.
  • Tanzania: A median download speed of 17.63 Mbps made Halotel the fastest mobile operator in Tanzania during Q3 2022

China races ahead globally

From the Speedtest Global Index ranking, it seems China has the fastest internet on earth.

China topped the list with Shanghai as the fastest city on our list for mobile with a median download speed of 158.63 Mbps.

Beijing on the other hand was fastest for fixed broadband during September 2022 at 238.86 Mbps.
