New Twitter App ‘X’ slowly enters into some devices in Tanzania but Many users still have the old Blue Bird

The rebranded Twitter App, now known simply as ‘X’ has started rolling out gradually into a number of devices in Tanzania.

While some tablets and smartphones have already received the automatically updated twitter, the ‘Over the Air,’ rollout is slow; there are still many devices in Tanzania that still operate with the old blue-bird logo.

The updated app features the new white ‘X’ letter against the black background.

Many however find the old ‘Twitter,’ much more appealing than the cold metallic looking new ‘X’.

As far as most people here are concerned, the latest Twitter app looks like some Sci-Fi computer simulated game.

According to the numbers circulated from Twitter’s advertising database indicate that Twitter, now known as ‘X,’ had 470,100 users in Tanzania recorded in early 2022.

There could be half-a-million Twitter users in Tanzania as of now, according to the 2023 estimates.

The United States with 77 million Twitter users tops the bill as far as the global app subscribers are concerned.

Japan comes second with 59 million twitter users, while India which ranks third in the world, has 24 million twitter users.

In Africa it is Egypt which tops the continent’s twitter usage with slightly above 5 million subscribers.

“Twitter was acquired by X Corporation both to ensure freedom of speech and as an accelerant for X, which is now the ‘everything app,” the company’s owner, Tesla billionaire Elon Musk, who bought the app in 2022 for USD 44 billion, pointed out recently.

“The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video,” Musk stated.

“In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world,” he added.

The letter X is the trademark of Elon Musk’s other enterprises such as his space-exploration venture SpaceX,  his recently launched artificial-intelligence app xAI and one of his electric car company that is Tesla’s earliest product the Model X.

But the ‘X’ trademark is already in use by several other companies and entities in the United States.

If fact, the Tanzania Times has learned that more than 900 companies in America have filed trademark registrations involving the letter X.

Some of the ‘other’ firms that own ‘X’ lettered trademark include the other Information Technology giants such as Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp.

There is also Microsoft, the powerhouse behind ‘Windows,’ operating software and computer hardware.

On the other hand, the Japanese tech and media giant, Sony Corporation also makes smartphones, tablets and related accessories under the brand name of Xperia.
