Heads roll as another airplane plunges into Lake Victoria in Bukoba

The issue of another airplane plunging into Lake Victoria near Bukoba, in Kagera Region, which should within one year after a similar accident in the same spot, is now causing heads to roll as people wonder what exactly the problem in the area is.

This time around, it happens to be an army plane, with registration number JW 9127 which fell into the waters of Lake Victoria during an ordinary air drill.

The Kagera Regional Police Commander ACP Blasia Chatanda said the small plane belonging to the Tanzania People Defense Forces (TPDF), had two pilots in its cockpit.

But both were rescued in time and whisked to safety after their aircraft crash-landed into the Lake.

The two army pilots were identified as Leonard Nkundwa (45) and Alex Venance (30).

Both men were immediately rushed to hospital for medical examinations.

However, as luck would have it, reports say they were both not harmed.

One of the eye witnesses, Alijuna Theobard, who is a resident of Nyamkazi Street of Bukoba Township, said two such planes including the fated yellow-colored craft have been making circles in the sky above the precinct for the past two days.

The wreck of the yellow plane was fished from the waters and bundled onto a semi-trailer truck which drove off with it.

Last year, a Precision-Air plane crashed into Lake Victoria just as the aircraft was preparing to land onto the adjacent Bukoba Airport, one misty Sunday Morning.

The fateful accident made headlines around the world after it claimed 19 lives leaving 26 other passengers seriously injured.
