In the journal Science, an international team of 84 researchers from institutions across Africa, Europe and North America reported that chimpanzees have genetic adaptations that are similar to those responsible for malaria adaptation and resistance in humans.

The researchers found out that 11 patients, who were thought to have been cured, through Artemisinin interventions, suffered a repeat malaria attack within 28 days.

The researchers say that although multiple hominin species coexisted in eastern and southern Africa, little was known about the interspecific interactions of the species due to limitations of skeletal fossil record.

Researchers shed light on the genes that could be linked to the high mortality rates of prostate cancer among men of African descent.
