Three young lady footballers from Arusha have travelled to Lusaka, in Zambia for trial matches towards future homeless world cup.
The candidates, Louis Dismass, Rose Paul and Susan Paul, were scouted here by the Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA) of Zambia during the maiden African Women’s Cup 2024 which was staged in Arusha in June 2024.
Hosted by the Future Stars Academy, in collaboration with Homeless World Cup and FIFA Foundation, the event attracted participating teams from eight countries.
Uganda emerged the overall winning country in the 2024 event held in Arusha, while Tanzania, the host, finished in the second position.
Uganda has thus qualified to participate in the Homeless World Cup 2024, which will be hosted in South Korea later this year, attracting over 64 countries in Seoul City.
The Director of Future Stars Academy (FSA), Alfred Itaeli said they were glad that Arusha has once more managed to produce ace players who are deemed to be of good standards capable of playing soccer internationally.
“They have left Arusha for Lusaka for two weeks grilling trials,” said Itaeli, adding that they were confident that all the three girls will perform well and qualify for future Homeless World Cup events.
After the maiden event held in Arusha in 2024, Kenya now prepares to host the follow-up season of the Africa Women Cup, which is to be held in Nairobi City in June 2025.
“The Tanzania event was just the beginning of the Homeless World Cup’s newest tournament as the Foundation looks to grow the women’s game in Africa and globally, supporting those who need it the most,” said James McMeekinm, the Chief Operating Officer for the Homeless World Cup Foundation.
“The First Women Africa Cup targets to protect vulnerable women from exploitation,” Mc Meekin had previously explained. Countries that participated in the 2024 event include Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.
