Wildfires destroy over 250 hectares of forests in Libya

As strategic efforts are being applied to try and contain the raging flames in the Libyan Wilderness, it has been reported that more than 250 hectares of forests have been destroyed by the wildfires.

The wildfires continue to wreak havoc across the vast landscapes of the Eastern Regions in Libya. Authorities in the North African country have launched efforts to try and control the wildfire with partial success.

The Libyan Agricultural Police Department of the Eastern region has reported that three separate wildfires broke out within its operational precincts, resulting in the destruction of approximately 250 hectares of trees and natural forestland.

According to the department, teams of fire brigades have so far succeeded in bringing under control much of the raging forest fires, though the flames continue to burn in other parts.

Official reports are to the effect that some areas in the Ras El Hilal forests remain under serious problems because the difficult terrains are rendering the firefighting exercise to be not only challenging but difficult to access.

Authorities however continue to monitor the situation against all odds and are coordinating with auxiliary emergency teams to fully work to contain the remaining hotspots.

They added that further updates will be issued once new developments are realized in the ongoing firefighting exercises.

But meanwhile in a rather surprising turn of events, rain fell over the Green Mountains in Eastern Libya, with the precipitation providing the much-needed relief and significantly aiding efforts to extinguish the wildfire.
