Weather prediction for the period of June to August 2025 in Eastern African Region

There are high chances of wetter than usual conditions indicated over most parts of the Eastern Africa region during the June to August climate season.

However, there are also drier than usual conditions expected over parts of north-western South Sudan and southern Sudan.

The Intergovernmental Authority of Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Application Center’s latest report indicates that the corresponding seasonal temperatures are expected to be warmer than usual over northern, western and eastern parts of the region.

Rainfall Forecast for June 2025

Normal to wetter than normal conditions expected over western Kenya, northern and southern Somalia, western and part of eastern Ethiopia, much of Uganda, most parts of South Sudan, and south-eastern, central, and south-western Sudan.

Drier than usual conditions expected over part of western Ethiopia, western and north-eastern South Sudan, and central-southern Sudan.

Temperature Forecast for June 2025

Warmer than usual conditions expected over northern areas of Sudan, southern Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.

Near normal temperature conditions expected over most parts of central to eastern Sudan, central to eastern South Sudan and north-western Ethiopia.

Cooler than normal conditions expected over north-eastern parts of Sudan, western Eritrea, north-western Ethiopia, parts of Djibouti, and cross-border areas of Uganda-Kenya-Ethiopia-South Sudan.

Seasonal Rainfall Forecast for June to August 2025

Wetter than usual conditions expected over most parts of the northern sector of the region.

Drier than usual conditions â€‹are expected over a few places in southern Sudan, north-western South Sudan, and isolated areas in southern coastal Somalia and Kenya.

Seasonal Temperature Forecast for June to August 2025

Warmer than average conditions are expected over northern and southern Sudan, South Sudan, much of Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.

Near Normal temperatures are expected in central Sudan, north-western Ethiopia, and parts of south-western South Sudan.

Cooler than normal temperatures are likely to be recorded over isolated areas in northern Somalia, northern Ethiopia, parts of southern Djibouti, a few regions in western and eastern Sudan and cross border areas of Kenya-Uganda-South Sudan-Ethiopia.
