Wanted: Volleyball Teams for Arusha City

Arusha, despite being a famous metropolitan, the City seems to have only two officially registered volleyball teams.

On the other hand, there are only three districts in the entire region that so far have recognized volleyball associations.

Districts with existing volleyball associations in the region include the Arusha Urban (City) , the Arusha Rural (ADC) and Karatu.

Monduli on the other hand has a volleyball team which belongs to a local secondary school in the district.

Now in efforts to address the shortages of such clubs in the precinct, the Arusha Volleyball Association is organizing a special meeting of potential volleyball players, leaders of existing clubs and other stakeholders.

The aim of the forthcoming meeting is to see ways of reviving the volleyball sport and related activities in Northern Tanzania. Delegates will also encourage unofficial teams to register themselves as potential clubs.

According to the Arusha Volleyball Association (AVA) Secretary, Emmanuel Barabojick, it is no longer possible to organize volleyball leagues in the region due to lack of proper clubs.

Emmanual points out that as per fixed regulations from sporting authorities all participating clubs in any league must be fully registered and with existing managements.

“During the meeting, we intend to lay formal grounds for the organization of Arusha Volleyball League which should be coming up in the course of next year 2024,” stated Barabojick.

According to the Arusha Volleyball Association Secretary, the region essentially has more than ten volleyball clubs with the exception of three, the rest are not registered.

Arusha City has the Pentagon Volleyball team for men and women, these essentially being the registered clubs so far.

The other third registered club is the Orkeswa team of Monduli.

The trio have been registered by the National Sports Council (BMT) and recognized by the Tanzania Volleyball Association (TAVA).

The two sibling clubs from the Pentagon outfit, sometimes represent the region in a number of national sporting events.

The Orkeswa team is essentially a sporting club for the Orkeswa Secondary School.

Arusha has the Pentagon Volleyball team for men and women, these essentially being the registered clubs so far. The two sibling clubs sometimes represent the region in a number of national sporting events.

“The region also lacks qualified volleyball coaches and trainers,” said the AVA secretary, adding that the forthcoming meeting is also going to address this concern.

The General Meeting for the Arusha Volleyball Association is to be taking place this August 2023.

Many of the local volleyball plannings usually take at the Arusha International Conference Center (AICC) club in the Kijenge area where there used to be a resident volleyball team.

After the scheduled meetings, to revive the sport AVA will organize a special maiden volleyball game whose schedule and participating teams are to be announced later.
