Kenya’s Presidential Candidate, Professor George Wajakhoya was arrested and briefly detained shortly after landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Northern Tanzania.
The Kenyan Politician, Lawyer, Activist and Human Rights Defender had just arrived in the neighbouring country, from Nairobi City.
“I was detained at the airport where it came to light that I am among the red listed travellers,” Prof Wajakhoya told a press conference in Arusha as soon as he was released.
According to the Professor, he demanded to know why he was detained at the airport.
“And I told the officers if I am unwanted in Tanzania then they should send me back home on the next flight,” the learned Wajakhoyah maintained.
The Charismatic Kenyan Politician flew from Kenya to Northern Tanzania so that he may take part in the grand welcoming ceremony for the former Member of Parliament for Arusha City, Godbless Lema.
Lema returns home from Canada where he was living in exile, reportedly after escaping from death threats following the 2020 General Elections in Tanzania.
Despite his airport mishaps, the former Kenyan Presidential Candidate, George Wajackoyah says he has great faith in Tanzania’s sixth President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Wajakhoyah added that he will soon be addressing a United Nations Congress and use the podium to highlight efforts being taken by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in restoring democracy in the country.
Addressing the press conference in Arusha, he pointed out that Tanzania used to be a regional exemplary state in matters of democracy but some few years back the country started falling badly.
“The whole world was really concerned with the deteriorating situation in Tanzania in the past few years before Samia Suluhu came to power,” the Kenyan Politician pointed out.
He is best known as the leader of the Roots Party.
“Samia saved the ship which was on the verge of sinking into the abyss but under her leadership, Tanzania is now slowly but surely returning back to glory,” Wajakhoya maintained.
He admits to be in Arusha to support the opposition movement led by the Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), because he admires Mr Lema as well as the party’s deputy chairperson, Tundu Lissu with whom they schooled together abroad.
On his part, the CHADEMA’s Northern Zone Secretary, Amani Golugwa said as soon as Lema lands in Arusha, he will be taken around the entire Northern Zone to address rallies, starting with the maiden meeting in the city.
“Later Lema will address a rally in Siha, Kilimanjaro before embarking on a countrywide mission to revive the opposition spirit,” Golugwa maintained.
