Unknown people, possibly a gang of criminals, or a team of people with vengeance, have murdered a first year female student at the Ruaha Catholic University.
The Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Allan Bukumbi, who also serves as the Iringa Regional Police Commander, stated that the deceased, Rahel Mkumbwa aged 19 years, was previously gang raped before being killed.
According to the police statement, Rahel who was living in a rental room along the Muhimba B’ Street in the Makorongoni Ward of Iringa Municipality, could have been killed at around an hour before midnight on Thursday, the 12th of December 2024 or early hours of Friday the 13th.
Whatever was the case, but early reports say the killers took away their victim’s mobile phone as they were leaving the scene of the crime.
Furthermore, the police claim that the suspects, after committing murder, entered into the adjacent room of the rental house and stole a laptop computer and two cellular phones as well.
That next door room, according to the cops, was also being occupied by another student, as far as the statement goes.
But the police reports are sketchy; the cops are not explaining where the other student was at the time of the murder and theft and who the victim’s neighbor was.
The police say they are still investigating the case and searching for the unknown culprits.
For observers, however, it would have been easy for the police to track the numbers or whereabouts of stolen phones as soon as the incident was reported to them, but apparently this is not the case with the Iringa cops.
Until going to press, the killers were still at large, and a family had just lost a daughter who they had sent to study at the Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU) hoping for her better future, but the girl’s life has just been cut short.
While the scenario looks like an ordinary robbery incident, other indications reveal some sort of vengeance, possibly a jilted lover (s) out to retaliate.
