United States laud declaration signing between DR Congo Government and Congolese rebel groups

The United States has welcomed the Signing of a Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Congolese Rebels Groups.

The Declaration was signed between DRC Government officials and Representatives from the coalition of the Congo River Alliance and March 23 Movement, which has been facilitated by the State of Qatar.

The signing of the Declaration of principles between Kinshasa and the Rebels’ groups fighting in DRC took place under the observation of the United States.

According to an official statement from Washington, the U.S commends the two Parties behind the DR Congo conflict for taking what was termed as ‘a meaningful step toward advancing lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.’

“We express our sincere gratitude to the State of Qatar for its critical role in facilitating this process.  Qatar’s leadership and dedication to fostering dialogue between the DR Congo and March 23 have been instrumental in supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict,” reads the statement from Tammy Bruce, the Department Spokesperson.

The achievement reportedly builds upon the previous Peace Agreement signed between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda on June 27, 2025, in Washington, D.C., and complements the broader efforts to advance durable peace and prosperity in the region.

“The United States encourages the parties to uphold their commitments under the Declaration of Principles and continue discussions required to reach a full peace agreement,” the dispatch from the U.S Department of State maintained.

According to the official release, the United States remains committed to driving progress toward a peace in the Eastern parts of DR Congo.

Washington wants to see positive results from the agreement, including the restoration of authority in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and inclusive governance that allows for the people of the region to return home and realize a more prosperous future.
