U.S Special Envoy travels to Kenya and Uganda addressing Sudan crisis: Washington declares Visa Restrictions for Ghana
The United States’ Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello is on a special trip to three African Countries as well as Saudi Arabia to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
Tom Perriello is traveling to Kenya, Uganda and Egypt then later on fly to Saudi Arabia in the official itinerary which started on October 30.
While in the four countries the U.S Special Envoy for Sudan gets to meet various officials and groups for meetings on the crisis in Sudan.
During his trip, the Special Envoy will hold an audience with Sudanese civil society leaders and government officials from the host countries, as well as with multilateral leaders.
Tom, the Special U.S Envoy will emphasize the need for immediate humanitarian access into and within all regions of Sudan, the importance of civilian protection and the urgency of all efforts to end the war.
An official statement from the office of the spokesperson at the U.S Department of State, says the government in Washington was very much committed to supporting a transition to civilian governance that allows the Sudanese people to be able shape their own political and economic futures.
In another development, the U.S Department of State has declared a new visa restriction policy, which will restrict American visas for any individual responsible for undermining democracy in Ghana.
According to an official dispatch, the policy will take effect in advance of Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled to take place December 7, 2024.
“This visa restriction policy would apply only to specific individuals who undermine democracy and is not directed at the Ghanaian people or the Government of Ghana,” reads part of the statement.
Ghana has achieved three decades of democratic elections and the peaceful transfer of power between parties – a record to be proud of and a model to cherish.
“The United States’ readiness to impose visa restrictions if circumstances warrant is an example of our support for the aspirations of all Ghanaians for a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process that reflects the will of the people.”
