U.S President’s African Diaspora Advisory Engagement Council Meets in Nigeria

The President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States will host its second meeting of the year for four days from 14 to the 17 of July 2024, in Nigeria.

This also happens to be the first President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement (PAC-ADE) trip to the African continent.

According to an official statement, the members of the Advisory Council will convene in Lagos and Abuja cities, where they will meet with government, civil society, and private-sector partners to discuss diaspora-led investments in education, entrepreneurship, health, technology, youth and women empowerment, and the creative industries.

The President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement was announced by President Joe Biden and Secretary Antony Blinken in September 2023.

The PAC-ADE is supposed to advise on ways to strengthen cultural, social, political, and economic ties between African communities and the African Diaspora.

It is being observed that the African Diaspora in the United States is composed of a rich and diverse community of African Americans and African immigrants, being the foundational to America’s 21st century partnership with Africa.

Many Africans in the diaspora have been contributing to their respective countries’ economies through remittance of funds back home.

This community, which includes descendants of previously enslaved Black Americans, has long advocated for the prosperity of the African continent and its people, and strengthened the unique relationship between the United States and African countries.

In accordance with Executive Order 14089, the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement comprises up to 12 members appointed by the Secretary of State.

PAC-ADE represents the diversity of the African Diaspora from African American communities around the United States and the African immigrant communities across the continent and the Caribbean.

The President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora establishment cemented the significant commitment proclaimed by the U.S Vice President, Kamala Harris on behalf of the Biden-Harris Administration.

The idea was announced during the 2022 United States and Africa Leaders’ Summit, which was aimed at enhancing dialogue between United States officials and the African Diaspora.
