Still caught in the middle of the war, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is already a troubled country, however latest reports warn of another impending disaster.
The Embassy of the United States in Kinshasa has released a statement warning all U.S. citizens and other foreigners in the DR Congo that there were some plans to attack places of worship, precisely churches.
“We have received reports that places of worship may be the target of terrorist attacks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” reads the statement from the American Embassy in Kinshasa.
It seems the attacks were planned from Sunday, July 20, onwards to the follow up weekends.’
The statement did not reveal the motives behind the speculated church attacks in DR Congo.
“The Embassy advises U.S. Citizens to exercise increased awareness, avoid large gatherings, and monitor local news and security updates,” said the statement from Kinshasa.
According to the U.S security advisory, should any of the Americans need emergency assistance, they should contact the Consular Section using the provided after-hours phone numbers.
The U.S advised the Americans living or travelling in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to take a series of precaution steps, including avoiding crowds and demonstrations.
They were also implored to exercise care and be aware of their surroundings, monitor local media for updates and maintain a low profile.

The Embassy also issued phone numbers should one need assistance in the DR Congi.
The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, is located along the 310 Avenue des Aviateurs, with the after-hours and weekend phone numbers listed as:
+243 81-556-0151/0152 or +243-972-616-193 (these are active after hours and during weekends).
The U.S Embassy in Kinshasa also maintains a list of local resources for emergencies on their website.
U.S citizens in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have also been advised to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates.
