Turkish Businessman shot dead in Dar-es-salaam

A businessman of Turkish origin, identified as Alptekin Zeynalabidin Aksoy, believed to have been 52 years old, was gunned down by unknown assailants who ambushed him in Dar-es-Salaam City.

The incident reportedly occurred in very early hours of Friday Morning of July 18, 2025.

The victim was killed and possibly robbed, during the attack.

Early reports reveal that Aksoy, an investor and General Manager of Markim Pools and Generators firm of Kinondono also a philanthropist, was shot dead while the businessperson was on the way to work that morning.

The assailants rode to the scene on a motorbike, and it seems after shooting him, they took something from the businessman’s car boot, after shooting the owner, before speeding off.

In fact, according to the police statement on the issue, Zeynalabidin Aksoy had just disembarked from his car at the Makaburini section of Kinondoni District of Dar-es-salaam city and was heading towards the office.

It was about 5.30 am, in the wee hours of Friday Morning when some unknown people emerged out of nowhere on a motorcycle and proceeded to shower the businessperson with bullets, an attack which killed the victim on the spot.

The Commander of Police who is in charge of the Dar-es-salaam Zone, Jumanne Muliro later confirmed the incident during his briefing to the media, but with very few details.

Muliro however also admitted that the killers were still at large and that his force was ‘investigating,’ the incident, requesting any person with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits should come forth and assist the cops.

Aksoy was a well-known business figure who is also credited with the establishment of the chain of Feza schools in Tanzania.

Cases of unexplained killings, enforced disappearances, kidnapping and abductions continue to escalate in Tanzania, raising concern among local residents and international communities.
