Trophy in the Wilderness: How Mwiba Lodge pierces its way into global limelight with Souvenir

Mwiba Lodge, which has been nominated in the coveted World Travel Awards for the last four years, has finally won an accolade at National levels.

Perched on the acute angle connecting Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti National Park, within part of Maswa Game Reserve, in Bariadi Region, the Mwiba Lodge has been named Tanzania’s Leading Luxury Tented Safari Camp 2025.

The facility located on a scenic site which overlooks a rocky gorge on the Arugusinyai River, was previously nominated for the Africa’s Leading Luxury Tented Safari Camp 2025, award managed the to rake in the National trophy during the WTA Gala night ceremony held recently in Dar-es-salaam.

Mwiba Lodge was competing against other potential Tanzanian nominees, including Cherero Camp, Little Chem Chem, Namiri Plains, Asilia Africa, Siringit Migration Camp, TAASA Lodge and The Highlands.

Mwiba Lodge Manageress, Saraphina Albin Tengia, said the management of Mwiba Holdings Limited has received the national accolade with gratitude, since together with members of their staff, they have been working hard to attain greater heights.

“We are confident that Mwiba Lodge will climb higher heights in the next World Travel Awards 2026,” stated Saraphina, pointing out that their first win in the WTA 2025 was the result of working as a team and cultivating mutual cooperation with the surrounding communities in Meatu District.

The Meatu District Wildlife Officer, Joseline Mpelasoka said Mwiba deserved the trophy because apart from running hospitality business, the Lodge management was actively involved in conservation activities, community service and anti-poaching drive.

“Through their Friedkin Conservation Foundation, the conservation efforts by Mwiba Holdings ​Limited have yielded positive outcomes because now, the number of lions, elephants and giraffes has increased tenfold,” added the wildlife officer.

The Meatu District Commissioner, Fauzia Hamidu Ngatumbura said the lodge had done the area proud in bringing home such an accolade of recognition from international tourism industry experts.

Teachers in Meatu District, through their union’s chairperson, Otieno Nundu, have also expressed gratitude to the Mwiba Holdings and Friedkin Fund for the provision of midday meals in local schools, something which has boosted class attendance and pupils’ performance.
