Tripoli now chooses China in the plans to rebuild Libya

A delegation from Libya’s Reconstruction Fund has jetted into Beijing in what is being described as expanding strategic partnerships with China.

The team is from the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, which happens to be an important development institution under the Eastern region government.

The contingent from Libya was under the supervision of Director General Engineer Belqasim Khalifa Haftar.

The team conducted an official visit to the People’s Republic of China, being part of a broader initiative to deepen cooperation in key development sectors.

Essentially in the plan to rebuild Libya, it seems Tripoli wants assistance from Beijing.

It was reported that the visit aims to strengthen ties between the Fund and several major Chinese state-owned and private companies.

These are companies operating in critical fields such as industrial development, construction, infrastructure, renewable energy, desalination, telecommunications, Information Technology systems, data management, and vocational training.

As part of the program, the Libyan delegation held high-level meetings with among other entities, the China National Engineering and Construction Corporation, Huawei Technologies and the Dongguan University of Technology.

They also held talks with the management of Taixing First Construction Company, the China Energy and Engineering Corporation, as well as other specialized Sino firms in various Chinese cities.

Talks and planning sessions have taken place across multiple Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, and Tuhai, reflecting a structured approach to partnership-building based on long-term strategy and mutual interests.

The outreach was said to be part of the Fund’s official roadmap to attract international expertise and investment, with the goal of accelerating Libya’s post-conflict reconstruction and modernizing its national infrastructure.

Meetings between the Libyan officials and Chinese experts focused on technical cooperation, potential joint ventures, and knowledge exchange to help drive sustainable growth across Libya’s priority sectors.

Still, most of the things planned during the entourage remain under wraps.
