An alert is being raised by the Embassy of the United States of America in Nairobi, regarding what is being suspected to be threats of terrorists’ attacks in Kenya.
In the recent advisory the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi reminded all American citizens in Kenya that they should exercise increased caution due to the risks of terrorism and possible acts of kidnapping.
Locations frequented by foreigners especially the people from the United States as well as tourists are feared to be targeted by the unidentified terrorists.
According to the statement from the Embassy, the attacks are not just limited to the country’s capital city but can also occur anywhere in Kenya.
“Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists,” reads part of the statement.
“While attacks can occur at any time, concerns are heightened in proximity to anniversaries of prior terrorist attacks, such as September 11, 2001 in New York, the September 21, 2013 attacks at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi and the October 7th Hamas attack against Israel in 2023.
The embassy listed the actions to be taken by Americans and other foreigners in Kenya, including reviewing their personal security plans and remaining on red alert and aware of their surroundings.
They were also cautioned to stay alert in locations frequented by tourists and other foreigners and keep monitoring social media platforms and other local outlets for updates.
The U.S Embassy is also warning people to stay away from areas of protest and mass demonstrations.
People are also advised to avoid crowds and Keep a low profile.
Across the border in Tanzania, cases of people being abducted and disappearing continue being reported with the social media being awash with such reports including news of persons, especially activists and politicians being attacked or killed.
