Tanzanian Envoy to Austria dies in Road Accident

The Tanzanian Ambassador to Austria, Celestine Mushy, who was in the country on official duties has died in tragic Road accident during a solitary ride.

The Tanzanian Representative to Austria, Ambassador Celestine Mushy was killed in a road accident which occurred in the Handeni District of Tanga Region.

Early reports said that the envoy was travelling in a car which he was driving himself when the vehicle got involved in an accident at Mkata section of Handeni in Tanga Region, killing ambassador Mushy on the spot.

Celestine Mushy was driving a Toyota Crown vehicle with registration numbers, T175 DMF, from Moshi Municipality, in Kilimanjaro Region, heading to Dar-es-salaam City when the accident occurred at Mkata.

His body was found to be badly burnt upon being salvaged from the crash scene.

The accident occurred at night and it seems like the envoy’s body was not immediately identified.

The Handeni District Commissioner, Siriel Mchembe confirms the incident, adding that the late Ambassador Mushy was traveling on his own in the ill-fated sedan.

A diplomat by career, Ambassador Mushy was appointed envoy to Austria by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in January 2022, which means he served the position for less than a year.

Previously he served under the Logal Government as assistant Regional Administrative Secretary, during the reign of former President John Magufuli.

Expressing sorrow at the sad news, President Samia Suluhu mourns Mushy by saying the envoy was also a permanent representative of Tanzania to the United Nations Office in Vienna.

In a different incident, the police in Handeni District were compelled to intervene and disperse a multitude of people in the Segera area who were scrambling to siphon liquid petroleum fuel from an overturned tanker.

The truck had apparently crashed along the highway at Segera junction.
