Organizers are rescheduling the National Rally Championship which was to race in the Northern Region of Arusha in October 2022.
The annual Guru Nanak Rally which would also have been the first motor sporting event to deploy a satellite-based radio navigation timing system has been cancelled after the death of the Chairperson of Arusha Motor Sporting Club.
In his statement, the NRC Atlantic Guru Nanak Rally coordinator, Manmeet Singh, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC) says the race has been put off, pending further announcements.
The decision comes after the death of AMSC Chairperson, Stephen Lohay the former Chief Pilot of Air Excel, who passed away a few days ago, shortly after landing in Tabora to refuel his plane.
Reports say that Captain Lohay suffered a heart attack when he was about to take off from Tabora Airport.
The plane, with three people on board, the pilot and two tourist passengers, was flying from Arusha City, in the North, heading to Katavi Region in the South-West of Tanzania.

They landed briefly in Tabora where the plane was refueled, but shortly before take-off, the Pilot collapsed on the controls in the cockpit.
Steve Lohay was rushed to a nearby hospital but condition got worse such that he had to be airlifted to Dar-es-salaam.
Captain Lohay died upon landing at the Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport.
The late AMSC Chairperson Stephen Lohay, was among the organizers of the Atlantic Guru Nanak Motor Rally 2022 whose participants would have come from Tanga, Arusha, Morogoro, Kilimanjaro and Dar-es-salaam.
This was going to be the Fifth round of Guru Nanak Rally and was set to cover over 137 kilometers of mostly the Monduli terrains.
Cars were to race from TMA through Nanja, Monduli-Juu, Emairate, Monduli Township, Orkeswa and Lashaine among other areas.
Defending champion of Guru Nanak Rally 2021, Manveer Birdi with his navigator Ravi Chana, were also to return again this year to reclaim the crown in their trusty Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
Earlier in the Previous 2020 Guru Nanak Rally Winner was the Kenyan driver, Karan Patel, in a Ford Fiesta, being navigated by Tauseef Khan.
Patel, the Kenyan driver, first won the rally in 2018 with James Mwangi in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10.
