Tanzania grounds down Precision Airplane

The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has been compelled to ground one of the aircrafts operating under the Precision-Air, carrier, citing safety concerns.

The aircraft, an ATR plane with registration number 5H-PWD belonging to the Precision Air Company has reportedly suffered two mishaps within two consecutive months of January and February 2023.

In the latest episode it was stated that the ATR plane which was flying from Dar-es-salaam City to Dodoma CBD developed engine failure while airborne.

The Captain of the Precision Airplane was therefore forced to shut down one of the aircraft’s engines midair on February 15, 2023.

He then took an about-turn flying back to Dar es Salaam and landing the plane at the Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport.

This happens to be the second technical disaster occurring on the same plane, after suffering a similar incident in January, 2023, when it hit a flying bird and again got forced back to base.

Again on February 3, 2023 the Management of Precision Air released a statement saying one of the company’s planes had developed engine problems.

While Precision Air is always commended for safe operations, the company suffered its most serious mishaps in November 6, 2022, when one of their planes plunged into Lake Victoria that early Sunday Morning.

Plane Pilot Captain Buruan Lubaga, according to reports, attempted to land on the waters after the aircraft developed mechanical failure, shortly after arriving in Bukoba, their final destination in the journey from Dar-es-salaam to the Lake Zone.

The Captain, First Officer and 17 passengers perished in the Precision-Air ATR 42-500 plane watery accident which is still fresh in most people’s minds.

Partly owned by Kenya Airways, Precision Air is a private airline founded in 1993 by a Tanzanian investor Michael Shirima, who formerly worked for the State-Owned carrier, the Air-Tanzania.
