President Samia Suluhu Hassan has reshuffled her Government’s top panel of officials, bringing on board new faces, including the country’s first female Defense Minister.
The Director of Information Department at State House, Jaffar Haniu, released the new lineup, last Sunday night.
Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax becomes the country’s first female Minister of Defense and National Service. She fills the position left vacant after the demise of former Defense Minister, the late Elias John Kwandikwa.

Dr Stergomena Tax once served as the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) of which Tanzania is a member.
There is now an updated ‘Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology,’ to be headed by Dr Ashatu Kachwamba Kijaji, who takes over from Dr Faustine Ndugulile.

Previously, the Ministry of Information used to be bundled together with Arts, Sports and Culture.
January Makamba fills the position of the Minister for Energy, after former docket holder, Dr Merdard Kalemani got relieved off his duties.

Professor Makame Mbarawa on the other hand, has been made the Minister for Works and Transportation, replacing Leonard Chamuriho.
Meanwhile, Dr Eliezer Mbuki Feleshi becomes the new Tanzanian Attorney General, taking over from Prof. Adelardus Kilangi who has been made an Ambassador.
