Users in Tanzania have been forced to re-install alternative messaging applications again after WhatsApp crashed for the second time in less than two years.
Signal and Telegram apps got a new lease of life as most people either revived them or re-installed those previously deleted platforms.
Most WhatsApp Groups admins have been urging their members to migrate to alternative platforms for added security even after the application services resumed.
It was all panic among most Tanzanians and other residents of East Africa when WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform crashed on Tuesday morning.
People could no longer send chat messages using the application which in Tanzania seems to be the defector communication medium for groups of associates and corporates.
It was all dark for more than an hour when the green icon on smartphones and tablets became useless.
After nearly 70 minutes, Meta, the owners of the application, made a statement.
“We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We’ve fixed the issue and apologized for any inconvenience,” a Meta spokesman was quoted as saying.
Meta owns WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.
WhatsApp, Meta’s popular messaging service is used by billions across the world but in recent times, it has been crashing frequently.
In 2021 the WhatsApp went off for more than 24 hours, causing people to try and reinstall the app again, losing data in the process.
