Tanzania lowers its national flag to half mast as the country mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The mourning period in Tanzania goes on for five days.
A directive from President Samia Suluhu Hassan instructs all Tanzanian Missions abroad to also fly the country colors at half-mast in respected to the departed Monarch.
The official dispatch from the State House announces that the five-day mourning period in Tanzania should effectively start countrywide from Saturday, September 10 to Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
Kenya, on the other hand, has set aside four days of mourning Queen Elizabeth II death, as per President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directives.
President Museveni has not yet announced Uganda’s Mourning days but he has released a statement expressing sorrow.
“Today, September 9, 2022, at 1000 hours, Mama Janet and myself were supposed to depart by air to the UK to take part in the 50 years commemoration of the expulsion of our Indians by Idi Amin in 1972. However, at 2030 hours, it was announced (East African time) from London that Her Majesty the Queen had died. My immediate reaction was to cancel the trip. I did not think it appropriate to continue with the trip given this loss to the UK and the Commonwealth. Fortunately, when I consulted more people, including our Asian organizers in the UK, everybody agreed with my instinctive initial reaction. The function was postponed to a future date to be agreed on.”

But it in Kenya that, the former Princess Elizabeth, ascended to the throne in February 1952 as she and husband Philip were touring the country.
Queen Elizabeth visited Tanzania only once in 1979.
It was the Queen’s first and apparently also, her last time in the country.
She was hosted by the then President of Tanzania, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
Elizabeth II was the Queen of Tanganyika (Present Day Tanzania) from 1961 to 1962.
Queen Elizabeth II became monarch while in Kenya, On February 6, 1952.
A visit by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Kenya in 1952 occurred during their 6-month Commonwealth Tour; the tour ended a few days after King George VI’s death.
Both the Queen and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visited Uganda in 2007 to open the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kampala.
