A Hindi Media outlet is reporting that the latest Covid Omicron patient to be recorded in the country is an Indian traveller who had just arrived in New Delhi, from Dar-es-Salaam.
The New Delhi Television (NDTV) says that this 37-year-old man had just landed at the Indira Gandhi International Air Terminal from Tanzania, when he was tested positive with the new Covid variant, Omicron.
The patient, an Indian citizen who happened to be returning home from the East African Region, is currently admitted in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital of Delhi.
Lok Nayak Hosiptal is a medical facility dedicated to handle Omicron cases in India.
Dr Suresh Kumar the Medical Director at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital was quoted as saying that the patient had mild symptoms and he had taken both doses of the vaccine.
Twelve samples had been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control. One was found carrying the Omicron variant. The patient is an Indian who had just returned from Tanzania over the weekend. According to the PTI news agency.
So far, India has reported five cases of the new Covid variant in the country, including this new victim allegedly returning from Tanzania.
Tanzania, on the other hand has not reported any case of Omicron. The country is also among the least affected precincts as far as Covid-19 infections are concerned.
India’s first two cases of Omicron were recorded in Karnataka.
The other two cases were reported from Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The new Omicron Varient has put several countries at risk and these include the United Kingdom, all 44 countries in Europe, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel.
The Hindi outlet reports that all International airports in India are intensively screening and testing all passengers countries deemed at risk. Passengers from such areas are compelled to take RT-PCR tests on arrival. Test results need to be negative in order for them to be allowed out of the terminals.
