It Was All Fiesta as Ford Tops Mkwawa Rally of Iringa, Beating Subaru, Mitsubishi

“Can any car afford to beat a Ford in Iringa rally?”

Well. In Arusha it is usually Subaru and Mitsubishi cars that rule in practically all motor racing events.

But in the Southern Highlands, at least in Iringa, tables usually turn alongside the car wheels.

It was actually a Ford vehicle which called the shots, at the National Rally Championships Round 8 in Iringa, topping the Mkwawa Rally 2021 and lived to celebrate the victory in a fiesta.

Ahmed Huwel, with navigator Rahim Suleiman of the Mkwawa Rally team, topped the motor racing event in a Ford Fiesta Proto with Number 7 on the door.

But braving the Proto exhaust fumes, was the Amapiano Motorsports team, Charles Bicco and David Matete who saved the Subaru name at position number Two, driving in an Imprezza MY10.

A Mitsubishi also managed to spin the wheels into Number 3 courtesy of Naheed Tim and Farhad Mustafa in Lancer Evolution X.

Another Lancer (Evolution IX) kept the Mitsubishi flag up in position 4 as Ismail Tharia and Victor Jackson floored its pedals.

The Toysun Rally team comprising of Fayyaz Chandu and Imran Chandu closed in the top five in a Subaru Imrezza MY08.

Birding Off?

Something special to be noticed in the Rally of Iringa, is that, the winner of the recently held, Guru Nanak Rally of Arusha, Manveer Birdi and navigator Manmeet Singh, who failed to finish the race.

Infact five other vehicles failed to make it into the finishing line. The Rally was organized by the Iringa Motor Sports Club and sponsored by Mkwawa Drinking water.
