Speeding Car in President Ruto’s Motorcade Hits and Kills British man

Residents scream as Presidential motorcade runs down and kills a visiting Briton in Nairobi

African presidents love their long, stretching and speeding motorcades for glamor.

But sometimes these motorized status symbols can turn lethal as was the â€‹recent case with one such convoy of cars escorting the President of Kenya, William Ruto.

One of the speeding cars reportedly hit and killed a British national in Nairobi city.

The Briton was identified as Edgar Charles Frederick aged 79 years, who died on the spot. According to reports from Nairobi, a post-mortem will be conducted in due course.

However, unlike other African countries where such incidents would have gone unreported, in Kenya steps were taken promptly.

The driver of the support car which ran down the Briton has been arrested with the Police already launching investigations into the alleged accident.

Reports claim that the driver failed to stop after the incident, possibly fearing mob justice.

Police statement adds that the suspect has already been arraigned in court to answer charges.

Relatives of the late Edgar Charles Frederick have already been notified.

Apparently, the British man had been a regular visitor to East Africa and even this time he was in Nairobi to see his sister and nephew that happen to be residents of Kenya.

There were deafening screams from bystanders when Edgar was knocked down by a speeding presidential motorcade which was driving along Ngong Road in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

Later clips of videos started circulating online showing a crowd gathering around the dead man, with onlookers visibly shocked from what they were witnessing at the scene of the accident.

The incident occurred at the Adams Arcade area which is a busy shopping area near the city centre.

President Ruto had been travelling along the main road as part of a tour of the capital.

The vehicle which was involved in the collision belongs to the regional administration and was providing support to the President’s security escort.
