Shana Mao is a teenage girl from Arusha who is still swinging it high in Tennis.
The 17 years old tennis star is now setting out for the International Tennis Tourney in Nairobi.
Fresh from sports training in Europe, Shana Mao will be representing the nation in the forthcoming East Africa Junior Circuit, starting in Kenya this week.
Shana a product of the Gymkhana Club of Arusha, is being accompanied by other two ace tennis players namely Rashid Athuman and Ramadhan Rashid, the two are also from the Northern Safari City.
The trio are currently the top young tennis players in the country.
Starting on October 24, 2022, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) East Africa Junior Circuit involves youth aged between 18 years and below (Under 18) and takes place for three weeks in Nairobi City until November 12.
According to the Gymkhana Club’s tennis coach, Nicholas Jonas Leringa, the ITF East African Junior Circuit taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, is the qualifier stage in which those who excel enters into the world tennis ranking.
But why only three delegates? As far as the coach is concerned, Gymkhana Club so far has the trio fitting the age requirement.
All the same, it is being anticipated that some more players from Tanzania may come from Moshi and Dar-es-salaam regions.
As for Shana, who started playing tennis at the tender age of seven, is back from sports training in Belgium where she was being groomed for five years between 2017 and 2022.
Returning to East Africa, the ace player now aims to field for international tennis tournaments.
Their coach, Nicholas Leringa is just back from Seychelles where he was training tennis teams there for four years also serving as technical director in the sports.
From the Gymkhana Youth Tennis Training Program in Arusha, the coach says it has produced international stars such as Emmanuel Mallya and Omari Sulle currently fielding abroad.
Mallya and Sulle attended the International Tennis Federation (ITF) training center in Bujumbura, Burundi and later Kenya.
Omar later went to play tennis in Casablanca, Morocco while Emmanuel is currently fielding in the United States (USA).
The Arusha Gymkhana Club is an epicenter for prestigious sporting events and apart from incubating young talents in tennis it is also producing upcoming ace golfers
