The combined AFC and M23 politico-military coalition has declared that it has unilaterally decided to affect a ceasefire in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo for what is being described as empathetic reasons.

DR Congo, which accused Rwanda of backing the March 23 rebels in their capture of Goma, the capital of North Kivu, called on the three clubs to end their link with Kigali over the deal.

According to the G7 the latest M23 offensive has led to a dramatic increase in displaced civilians in Goma and across eastern DRC, on top of the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people since the start of the M23 offensive.
