The Optimist team from Oman are taking part in the 2025 African Championships event being hosted in Dar-es-salaam City.
According to the ‘Times of Oman,’ a total of five members of Oman’s Optimist Team will be participating in the 2025 Optimist African Championships in Tanzania.
The event is getting underway from the second day of August 2025.
It is a week-long event which brings together more than 75 of the best Optimist sailors from 14 countries across the African region and overseas.
Representing Oman will be Khamis Nasser Al Meshaikhi, Mohammed Ziyad Al Qasmi, Khaled Yahya Al Sarihi, Tarteel Zaid Al Hasani and Hadeel Yousuf Al Mushaifri.
All the five competitors will be aiming to compete for podium positions as well as using the Dar-es-salaam event as a key training event ahead of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) Asian and Oceanian Championships in October 2025.
The delegation from Oman is being led by the Oman Sail Performance Head Coach, Hashim Al Rashdi, together with the Optimist team Coach Hassan Al Rahbi.
“This is an important event in terms of gauging progress against sailors from across our region as well as another opportunity to fine tune the tactical and technical aspects of our sailors,” said Hashim Al Rashdi.
“We are now entering a busy period where there are four major events in the coming months. A strong showing in Tanzania will allow us to head home with confidence to build for the next event,” added the performance coach.
After the African Championship in Tanzania, the Oman Optimist team will move on to compete in the International Optimist Team Race in Swaziland from 14-17 August and then in the Oman Sailing Championship in Sur from 18-22 August.
The team will then turn its focus to Mussanah for the 14th edition of Mussanah Race Week, to be held from 15-22 October, and the IODA Optimist Asian and Oceanian Championship following quickly afterwards from 25 October until the 1st of November.
