Nyuki Marathon: Racing against bees towards Apimondia

Nyuki Open Marathon, a special racing event which is among the activities leading to the Global Apimondia Conference races on Sunday, the 13th of July 2025 in Arusha City.

Organized by the Worker Bees Africa with support from the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) and the Arusha International Conference Center (AICC), the Nyuki Marathon has attracted more than 1000 runners.

Flagged off from the Kijenge Club grounds of Arusha International Conference Center, the race has attracted participants from various other countries including Kenya, Burundi, Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom.

According to the founder and CEO of Worker Bees Africa, Ally Saburi, the Nyuki Marathon features the main 42 kilometers full race, 21 Kilometers half-marathon, 10 kilometers distance and 5 kilometers fun-run.

The Nyuki Marathon is a groundbreaking global movement that fuses the power of sport with the urgency of environmental action, placing bee conservation and pollinator awareness at the heart of public engagement.

“More than a race, it is a bold, visionary platform that rallies citizens, institutions, and nations around one unifying cause: securing the future of pollinators to protect the future of humanity,” said Saburi.

Other sponsors of the race include, Organo Seven of Zimbabwe, Love to Care of U.K, Bonite Bottlers, Meddy Travel, Lavicato Trading Company and Diversity Travel and Tours.

Tanzania hosts the global Apimondia Conference in September 2027.

This year Denmark hosts the Apimondia in Copenhagen where Tanzania gets to be presented with banter.

Rooted in Africa and designed for the world, the Nyuki Marathon convenes athletes, environmentalists, policymakers, scientists, students, and everyday people in a celebration of life, biodiversity, and collective action.

According to the organizers, each stride taken during the marathon symbolically advances the global pollination agenda, contributing to food security, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

Through its immersive programming-ranging from marathons and beekeeping exhibitions to youth education, diplomatic dialogues, and innovation showcases- the Nyuki Marathon elevates bees from a forgotten species to a frontline symbol of planetary health and shared responsibility.

It offers a vibrant, hopeful response to ecological decline while igniting grassroots and institutional commitment to pollinator protection.

As a flagship initiative of Worker Bees Africa, the Nyuki Marathon aspires to become the world’s leading pollinator advocacy event, mobilizing cross-sectoral solidarity, driving policy innovation, and transforming public attitudes.

Under the banner “One Bee, Million Futures,” it reimagines what a marathon can be-not just a competition of endurance, but a journey toward environmental justice, sustainability, and intergenerational legacy.
