Ngorongoro Race Organizers Change Dates from September 11 to 25

The on-and-off, Ngorongoro Race, which was to be held on September 11, is postponing the event again.

Despite being off for a full year hiatus, the annual Ngorongoro Race coordinators are rescheduling the marathon from September 11 to September 25, 2022.

It seems even this latest date is once more subjected to change without notice.

The event is still being organized by Meta Sports Promotions.

This time however it gets stated under the new Coordination of ‘Market Access.’

Before the reschedule the 2022 instalment of the Ngorongoro Half Marathon was expected to attract at least 2000 participants, we are not sure if they will remain after the date changes.

The Ngorongoro Race covers the terrains of Karatu and Ngorongoro Districts.

The event, running for 14 years now, is scheduled to take place on September 25. God willing.

Meta Petro the Director of Meta Sports says the Ngorongoro Race 2022 was postponed for over a week to allow some other events take place on September 11.

“We have the main feature of the 21 kilometers Half-Marathon, which gets flagged off at the Oloduare Gate,” he reveals.

The Oloduare gate is the main entrance to both the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti National Park when one travels from Arusha to the destinations.

Athletes will run from the Loduare Gate, down to Karatu Township, then onwards to the Rhotia Hill hamlet.

From Rhotia they will turn back to Karatu heading to the finishing point inside the Mazingira Bora grounds.

The other two shorter races of 5 and 10 kilometers will start at different spots in Karatu Town and also finish at Mazingira Bora Grounds.

“Ngorongoro Race being an International Marathon, we are working to improve the event and promote it further so that it may get the global limelight it deserves,” states George Damian Kohoye, one of the event promoters.

Damian represents the Dar-es-Salaam based, ‘Market Access,’ which deals with market research, events, promotions, consultancy and general supplies, working also in Arusha and Mwanza Cities.

Tourism Meets Marathon in Ngorongoro

Gabriel Geay from the Talent Club of Arusha won the previous Ngorongoro Race 2020 topping the male category, in completing the 21 kilometers’ Half Marathon in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 42 seconds.

Failuna Matanga from Talent Club of Arusha, who covered the distance in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 3 seconds, won in the Ladies’ category.

During the 2019 Ngorongoro Race, it was the Kenyan runner, Abraham Too who topped the event by running the distance in 1 hour, 5 minutes and 59 seconds.

The event usually attracts athletes from Kenya, Uganda and other regions of Tanzania.

In 2020 for the first time a runner from Rwanda participated in the Ngorongoro Race. Last year the event had to be skipped due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Rogathe Steven, the Arusha Regional Athletics Association Secretary, says the Ngorongoro Race has been producing a number of athletes who are currently representing the country to International Events Overseas.

Rogathe mentioned some of the runners as Failuna Abdi, Fabian Joseph, Gabriel Gerald and Damien Christian.

He adds that participants uses the Ngorongoro Race 2022 warming up to China Half Marathon which follows in October
