The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris will soon be landing in Tanzania.
According to the latest reports, the US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Tanzania, which is coming up this month, is part of her forthcoming tour of Africa.
While on the continent, Kamala Harris will be visiting three countries, among them Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia.
Her African itinerary which will take ten days is scheduled to run between 25 March and 3 April, 2023.
For a number of political observers, VP Kamala’s visit to Dar-Es-Salaam reflects the fact that Tanzania is re-emerging as a key geopolitical power.
They believe that the country has been making democratic strides since President Samia Suluhu Hassan took the top office around this time two years ago.
A tale of two ladies
During her visit to the United States last year, President Samia Suluhu held talks with US Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House in Washington in April 2022.
Just as Samia Suluhu is the first female Head of State in East Africa, Kamala Harris is also the first female vice president in the United States.
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in the United States’ history.
US Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the latest among the 18 top US officials who have been visiting Africa since January 2023.
Kamala Harris is believed to be paving the way for the anticipated arrival of the US President Joe Biden, who during the US Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington DC in December 2022, had promised to visit the continent in 2023.
In February 2023 US First Lady Jill Biden visited two African countries, Kenya and Namibia. It was regarded as the most high profile visit.
The US Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen also visited Senegal, South Africa, and Zambia in February 2023.
