Mysterious Death: Tanzanian working for Google drowns in Miami River

Mystery still surrounds the tragic case of Abraham Mgowano, the young Tanzanian that used to work for Google and who drowned in Miami River under enigmatic circumstances.

Mgowano, who was 35 years old when he went overboard while riding in a motorboat in the US, worked as a software engineer at Google Headquarters in California.

The young Tanzanian was visiting Miami from Berkley, California, when he met his death.

He was among 12 passengers on the boat before he met his death.

Questions remain, did he just fall overboard? If so, did the boat swerve?

In fact some people in Tanzania even wonder if somebody pushed the software engineering expert into the waters.

Official reports say he fell overboard at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24.

At least that is according to a statement from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)

A team of rescuers searched the Miami River on Saturday evening in vain, but could not find Mgowano.

Miami Police, Miami-Dade Police, the U.S. Coast Guard and FWC conducted the search for Mgowano by air and even called on divers to look for him in the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard later said that it had suspended its search at around 8:15 p.m. Saturday night.

The late Mgowano’s body was tragically discovered three days later. It was floating in the river.

The FWC has taken over the investigation into what led up to the deadly day trip on the water.

“Abraham, he was the greatest of all time. We call him genius, he had a big heart,” the deceased friends stated.

Mgowano’s friends added that the late Abraham always loved them and always united his acquaintances whenever he flew to Tanzania for his usual visits.

Mgowano graduated with a bachelor of science in computer science in 2014 from Stanford University, one of the world’s best universities.

The same year of graduation, he was employed by Google as a software engineer and served for the company until his death.

His bachelor’s degree from Stanford was focused on systems and computer graphics and he also taught himself front-end web development in his spare time, something he was passionate about.

Previously, Mgowano studied at Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam and was among top students in final A Level exams in 2008.
