These are the banks that employ more people in Tanzania

The Commercial Banking Sector in Tanzania, despite facing a few stumbling blocks in the last two years, remains a vibrant industry offering plum jobs for people who pass their employment interviews.

We have the figures of the top 16 financial institutions with considerable number of employees totaling to 14,026 members of staff between them as listed below.

Out of the top 10 biggest employers in Tanzania’s banking sector, the CRDB Bank leads the pack with 3,605 salary slips.

The NMB Bank comes second with a stable of 3,544 workers in all its branches.

Tanzania Commercial Bank (TCB) is the country’s third big employer in the financial sector with 1,089 employees.

The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) with 984 workers is ranked fourth in the list.

Formerly known as the Export and Import Bank of India, the Exim Bank closes the top five segments. with 602 employees.

At number six is the Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) with 577 workers so far.

Then follows the Stanbic bank at number seven with 543 employees in its foyers

The People’s Bank of Zanzibar or PBZ so far has a total of 478 workers, ranking the financial institution at number eight.

Absa Bank Tanzania Limited (ABT), formerly Barclays Bank Tanzania Limited, which is a subsidiary of South Africa-based Absa Group Limited, is at number nine with 462 employees.

The Equity Bank, which is the leading financial institution in Kenya, has 447 workers in its Tanzanian branches and closes the top-ten list.

The rest are Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB) which has a total of 384 salary slips.

The Bank of Africa (BOA) with 288 workers.

Formerly known as the Kenya Commercial Bank, but now simply called KCB Bank, this has 283 employees in Tanzania.

There is also the Amana Bank with 264 workers; the Dar es Salaam Community Bank (DCB) with 254 employees and Standard Chartered Bank or StanChart with 222 workers.

Other banks operating in Tanzania but not listed here include the I&M Bank, CitiBank, FBME, Finca, Bank of Baroda, Mwanga Bank, BankABC and Bank M. United Bank of Africa and many more, whose numbers of workers were not readily available.
