Former Tanzania’s Ambassador to Sweden arrested in Dar-es-salaam

The former Tanzanian envoy to Sweden, Dr Wilbroad Slaa has been arrested in Dar-es-salaam.

Dr Slaa who at one time also vied for the country’s presidency through the Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), has been quite vocal in speaking against the UAE firms, DP World taking over the Dar-es-salaam Port.

Reliable reports say the outspoken politician was picked from his home in the Mbweni ward of Dar-es-salaam in the afternoon of Sunday August 13, 2023.

The former Catholic Priest becomes the third person to fall victim to ongoing arrests in the East African country.

Dr Wilbroad Slaa’s arrest scenario was captured live in an audio clip.

“I have just received guests at my home right now, these are police officers,” Dr Slaa was recorded in an audio clip as the cops stormed into his house.

In the clip, Dr Slaa was heard cautioning President Samia Suluhu to be wary of her advisors as investors will now stay clear of Tanzania.

It seems like Ambassador Slaa was in the midst of making contribution to an ongoing online discussion forum, when the cops entered his house and demanded that he should go with them.

Previously arrested also is Advocate Boniface Mwabukusi, the lead counsel for the petitioners, who filed a legal suit challenging Tanzania Government’s decision to grant the UAE Company, DP World the tender to operate Dar-es-Salaam’s Port.

The police released a statement later confirming that Mwabukusi and one other person was arrested in Mikumi, Morogoro as they were travelling to Dar-es-Salaam.

Mdude Nyagali, a popular activist in Tanzania, is the person that the police said he was arrested alongside Advocate Mwabukusi.

Another Lawyer, Peter Madekela was picked up in Arusha two weeks earlier and is being detained.
