Mwanza records Double Victory in CRDB Supa Cup 2023
The Lake Zone emerged winners in the just concluded third season of the CRDB Bank Supa Cup which was held at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha over the weekend.
The ‘Ulipo Tupo’ Football Club, which hails from the CRDB Bank in Mwanza became victorious after thrashing the SDK Football Club of Dar-es-salaam, essentially the Coastal Zone 2-1.
On the other hand, the ‘Ulipo Tupo,’ Queens from Mwanza in the same branch managed to beat the Central Zone’s CRDB team known as ‘Popote Ina Tick,’ from Dodoma 45 – 23 in the final Netball matches also held at the same venue.
According to Crescensia Grace Kajiru, from the Human Resources Department of the financial institution, there were 12 football teams and eight netball teams in the Supa Cup which has been running since August when they kicked off in Dar-Es-salaam and climaxed in December at the finals in Arusha.
“Our members of staff spend most of their time behind desks in bank buildings therefore we realized the importance of involving them in sports, especially competitive games with incentives to keep the workers fit,” stated Kajiru.
The winning team in football smiled all the way to the CRDB Bank with 13 Million/- in addition to a gold medal and trophy, the second winner gets 9 million/- with a cup, while the third winners get 6 million.
In netball games, the winning ladies get 13 million/- the second winners get 8 million/- for their trouble.
The CRDB Supa Cup which was in their third season this year, started back in the year 2021.
“During that time our ladies were not very much inspired to participate in the games, but now as can be seen here, they have been extremely active in netball,” said the Human Resources officer.
During the climax ceremony, the Arusha District Commissioner Felician Mtehengerwa was invited to issue cups and prizes to the winning teams at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium.
