After Rwanda and Tanzania, Senegal now gets to host the African Food Systems Summit in Dakar, September 2025
Senegal has been selected to host the Africa Food Systems Forum in 2025 becoming the first Sahelian country to do so.
The African Food Systems Forum (AFSF), is the world’s premier forum for African agriculture and food systems, which usually brings together stakeholders to take practical action and share lessons that are expected to propel African food systems forward.
With Senegal hosting the event in Dakar during the ninth month of 2025, this becomes the first time that this premier gathering is taking place in a Sahelian country.
Senegal is located further in West Africa, along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. The country is bordered by Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest.
Senegal was selected to host the September 2025 convening after a three-month selection process found the country to be most ideal because of its forward-looking agricultural food systems.
Rwanda hosted the African Food Systems Forum in 2024 and previously, the AFSF 2023 summit was held in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.

It is now turn for Senegal. The country’s ambitious 2050 Vision led by the new young leadership, commitment to sustainable food systems transformation that align with the Forum’s mission also contributed to its favour as well as Senegal’s world-class event infrastructure, stability and security.
Senegal’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock and government will now collaborate with the African Food Systems Forum Secretariat, and partners to ensure an impactful AFSF 2025 summit.
“We are confident that this African Food Systems Forum platform and year-round activities leave a lasting impact on food security and sustainability across the continent, paving the way for a prosperous and food-secure Africa,” said the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture Dr Mabouba Diagne.
“The African Food Systems Forum looks forward to working closely with the government of Senegal and our partners to deliver beyond a transformative annual event concrete legacy outcomes for the country in 2025,” stated the Managing Director of the AFS Forum, Amath Pathé Sene.
On her part, Dr Agnes Kalibata the President of Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and Co-Chairperson of the AFSF Partners Group, expressed delight to have Senegal host the Africa Food Systems Forum in 2025.
“This decision stems from the commitment of Senegal’s leadership in the transformation of the country’s food systems,” explained Dr Kalibata,
