With authorities still not aware, drivers of tourists’ vehicles as well as guides have been taking photos and video clips of the elephant with her two jumbo cherubs in the endless plains.

Judging by their jumpy movements, the two babies seem healthy and happy.

The Photos and Videos were captured in time by a Safari Guide, Zablon Mmbaga.

It is so far the first case of elephant twins to be reported in the Serengeti.

The elephant herd with the family of twins was spotted near Four Seasons Safari Lodge in the Serengeti National Park.

Twin Comes Jumbo

Elephants giving birth to twins remains a strange phenomenon.

The Serengeti twins’ birth is the third such occurrence to be experienced in Tanzania, and fourth to be documented in the entire East African Region.

The first case of an elephant with twins was reported at the Tarangire National Park back in the year 2018.

It was a phenomenon attracting international media outlets and researchers from all over the globe.

Five years later, in July 2022 to be precise, another Elephant was reported and confirmed to have delivered twins again within the Tarangire National Park.

Tarangire, which is Tanzania’s second popular National Park after Serengeti, is famous for its extremely large herds of equally huge elephants.

But, previously in January 2022 an elephant was also reported to have given birth to twins in the Samburu Game Reserve of Northern Kenya.

Do elephants give birth to twins?

African elephants have the longest gestation period of any living mammal, carrying their young for nearly 22 months, and giving birth roughly every four years.

Zoological experts say twins are rarely encountered in elephant populations and form about only one percent of births.

Also, the chance of survival for elephant twins is usually minimal.

However, those born in Tarangire, five years ago, one named Elon Tusk (as in Elon Musk) a male and her sister Emma (after actress Emma Watson), are still alive to date.

And so is their mum, Eloise now aged 63 years.

Mind you, Eloise was quite old at 58, when she gave birth to the twins, another rather strange thing.
