The transporters, while accepting some of the directives from the City Governor, were also a bit reserved on others.

The moving of long distance matatu and buses to the newly established greenpark terminus near Uhuru park, for instance, was seen as an achievement.

The governor explained to the business community that it was one way of decongesting Nairobi and reducing the city traffic.

“What I am saying today is not  suggestion but these are my orders and expecting my officers to implement them as soon as possible inorder to make this matatu issue a success,I also promise to finish impunity at Nairobi county” Nairobi Governor Sakaja.

Sakaja who was also requested to give back to the matatu sector following the taxes that are collected from the sector he has pledged to contribute to the upcoming Nairobi Matatu graffiti Festival and awards the winners of various categories.

On his part Jamal Ibrahim  Chairman of Nairobi Matatu Operators has requested the authorities incharge of issuing new routes to different saccos to first conduct a feasibility study before giving out a route so as to avoid many fleets of matatu’s from the same sacco on a stage that end up in causing jam.

” Am requesting we partner with the county through our boys who mostly operate at stages to  address issues of traffic, menaces like stealing that end up as blame to our sector”Jamal.

This meeting comes in a few days after the ministry of interior security coordination has ordered a sweep of all criminal gangs operating in Nairobi of which few matatus touts are apprehended on charges of robbery with violence.
