Mirth in Uganda as President Museveni’s son fakes an apology tweet from U.S Ambassador

The United States Mission in Uganda has thrashed claims by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the country’s Chief of Defense Forces who claimed that the U.S Ambassador to Kampala has issued an apology to him.

“The narrative is completely false,” reads a statement from the U.S Embassy in Uganda.

According to the Embassy, they never received any formal request to apologize from the Ugandan Government on any matter and neither has Ambassador William Popp, their envoy in Kampala who has also not apologized to anybody.

“All official statements are posted on our platforms and website,” the Embassy revealed.

Earlier, CDF Mohoozi Kainerugaba who also happens to be the son of the Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, had posted on his Twitter (X) that the United States Ambassador William Popp had formerly issued an apology to the Chief of Defense Forces, that is himself and his father, the Head of State.

But as it turns out, the claims by Muhoozi Kainerugaba have been termed as false and officially dismissed by the U.S Embassy in Uganda.

Many Ugandans have been finding the development to be rather funny.

Reacting on “X” Ugandan Human Rights Activist, Isaac Mukiibi replied with a smirk, “So you won’t apologize to the baby dictator? It is official now!”

A Ugandan Advocate and aspiring Member of Parliament, Simon Ojok who is a partisan of the Acholi Tribe expressed relief from the U.S Embassy statement, thanking them for the clarification.

“I was also wondering how the United States Embassy can issue an apology for a social media post, especially on social media itself as it seems undiplomatic,” said Ojok.

A week earlier, Ambassador William Popp had issued a statement which seemed to irk Uganda’s first son.

“We support that the Ugandan Constitution be fulfilled, and for citizens to be able to choose their leaders, how they want to participate in making laws and having those laws being enforced, and be part of the governance process, which is essential to every democracy,” Ambassador Popp had said.

To which Kainerugaba a high ranking army officer and son of President Museveni demanded an apology from the envoy for interfering with ‘Uganda Matters!’

Ugandan Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs Nkunyingi Muwada condemned what he described to be the threats and reckless undiplomatic rhetoric by the Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba

“General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces threatened the life and Service of United States Ambassador to Uganda, Ambassador William Popp by promising to unleash hell, destruction and defeat on the person of Ambassador and the US Government,” Muwada stated in an official dispatch.

“This development exposes the impunity of some state actors and the eroded space for rule of law, democratic governance and human rights protection in Uganda.”
