The reds are taking onto the Blue Mountain.

Great Bryan Robson is leading a team of 23 inspirational trekkers to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro this week, all in aid of the Manchester United Foundation.

Captain Marvel’s group are taking on the tallest free-standing mountain in Africa, climbing an incredible 5,895m above sea level to raise vital funds.

Robbo or Captain Marvel as he is known, together with the team set off from Manchester Airport in the United Kingdom last Sunday afternoon flying to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Northern Tanzania.

The entire Mancunian delegation will spend the next seven days working their way to the top of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak in Moshi, Tanzania.

They are prepared to tackle the tough terrains in their travel through rainforest, moorland and highland desert before finally reaching the arctic zone at the summit, they are raising funds and definitely they need your support.

The group have so far received over £59,000 from various donations, with all money raised helping to fund the Foundation’s education and community outreach programmes.

The initiative is meant to support underprivileged children in the Greater Manchester area and according to the Manchester United every penny is appreciated.

Krishan Puvvada is one of the climbers in the fundraising expedition, who say; “My grandmother was born in Tanzania, while my grandfather climbed the mountain in 1958 and I noticed we summit on my birthday – so it was impossible to turn down when all the stars were aligned!”

“It’s the perfect opportunity to challenge myself while supporting a cause and club I deeply believe in. “It’s both a physical and mental test but knowing that I’m helping raise funds to provide opportunities for youth in need makes it all the more meaningful and magical” says another team member Satta.

“I think this is going to be an incredible journey, both physically and mentally. It is fantastic to collaborate with the Foundation whilst doing something inspiring and meaningful” adds Adriana another trekker for the noble cause.

This is not the first time for Mancunians to tackle Kilimanjaro for a cause; in 2009 Gary Barlow the frontman for the popular Take That Music band did the same, together with another boyband star, Ronan Keating of Boyzone.
