The following is an official Statement from the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces.
Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar is trying to explain the situation behind the recent clashes on the border precinct separating Libyan and Sudan.Â
For starters, the Libyan Armed Forces strongly denied what is being described as false accusations by the Sudanese Armed Forces claiming Libyan intervention or seizure of territory along the border.
According to the army commander, these allegations are seen as a recycled narrative intended to distract from Sudan’s internal crisis by fabricating an external enemy.
Field Marshall Khalifa claims that Libya has never posed a threat to its neighbors and remains committed to border stability, fighting terrorism, curbing illegal migration, and maintaining strong security coordination with neighboring countries.
On the other hand, the Libyan army leader states that the Sudanese forces have repeatedly violated Libyan border areas.
“The Libyan army has responded with restraint to preserve peaceful neighborly relations.”
But he points out that, Libya reserves the right to respond to any aggression, as demonstrated recently when Sudanese forces attacked a Libyan patrol securing the border.
“The incident was handled swiftly and responsibly without turning it into media propaganda, unlike the actions of the Sudanese Armed Forces,” Khalifa maintains.
According to the official, Libya, especially the East and Southeast, bears the humanitarian burden of Sudan’s war, hosting hundreds of thousands of displaced Sudanese welcomed by Libyan communities.
“The Sudanese Armed Forces ignore this humanitarian context and instead resort to hostile rhetoric and false claims,” said the Field Marshall.
Khalifa added that the Libyan Armed Forces categorically reject being dragged into Sudan’s internal war or being portrayed as aligned with any side, domestic or regional.
“Accusations from Sudan are seen as attempts to spark regional tensions and settle internal political scores, an approach Libya fully rejects. Libya urges all Sudanese factions to choose dialogue, end the war, and prioritize the wellbeing of the Sudanese people and regional peace.”
“Libya reaffirms its readiness to back any regional or international initiative that promotes a peaceful resolution and secures the return of displaced people.”
“The Libyan Armed Forces remains committed to good neighborly relations, international law, and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.”
The Field Marshall then concluded by insisting that, Libya will not hesitate to defend every inch of its territory against any threat or aggression, regardless of its source.
What Sudan said earlier
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) recently accused Libyan militia leader Khalifa Haftar of taking part in a joint border attack with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in its war with Khartoum.
The attack is the first time direct involvement of Libyan fighters in the conflict in Sudan has been alleged.
SAF spokesman Nabil Abdullah said in a statement the attack took place along the borders of Sudan, Libya, and Egypt.
Abdullah said Haftar’s forces had attacked army positions in coordination with the RSF, denouncing a “blatant aggression against Sudan” aimed at taking control of the border region.
