Kenya’s President William Ruto takes over EAC Summit Chair promising to tap into European Union Market
President William Ruto of Kenya has been nominated to chair the East African Community’s Heads of State Summit, taking over from Salva Kiir Mayardit of South-Sudan.
As rains pounded the podium, President Ruto pointed out that with current good cooperation with the European Union, the East African Community should tap into the advantage of accessing the EU’s lucrative markets for exports
“The European Union market value stands at around 13 Trillion Euros which means with proper value added pro
“We shall promote value-added production, reinforcing peace and security as well as political accountability,” said William Ruto in his acceptance speech at the Arusha Heads of State Summit meeting.
“During my tenure, I will prioritize improving the quality of life for the people in our region, we will focus on increasing competitiveness promoting value-added production, boosting inter-regional trade and driving investment to our economies,” Ruto assured.
Normally the position of the chairperson of the Summit is a rotary slot and the only member states that have not yet chaired the EAC ivory tower are the troubled Democratic Republic of Congo and the new kid on the block, Somalia.
President Ruto also promised to strengthen the expansion of the community including opening doors for new members to join the Arusha-Pivoted regional bloc.
The EAC Heads of State Summit held in Arusha, Tanzania goes in sync with the ceremony to mark 25 years’ milestone of the East African Community which sailed in November 1999.
