Juba lawyer wants FIFA to investigate corruption in South Sudan’s Football Association

A lawyer in South Sudan, Advocate Musa Hassan Urbano has submitted a formal complaint to the International Federation of Football Associations, accusing his country’s national soccer association of some foul play.

Hassan Urbano is claiming that the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) and its president, Lieutenant General Augustino Maduot Parek, are steeped in a series of mismanagement, while the head of the outfit is abusing power.

At least, this is according to the press statement which the lawyer released to the media.

The complainant alleges that the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) leadership violated the constitution by postponing the General Assembly Meeting, which was originally scheduled for February to June 20, 2025, without any legal justification.

The lawyer is also reproaching the football association of ‘manipulating the electoral process,’ by imposing some amendments to the SSFA constitution that are currently restricting competition.”

The document highlights violations of Articles 31(3) and 31(4) of the Association’s constitution, citing the failure to submit financial reports and agenda items for the General Assembly on time.

According to Urbano, that omission can be described as a “lack of transparency.”

Additionally, the SSFA president is accused of exploiting official events, such as the launch of the women’s football league in Jonglei on June 6, for his own campaign and propaganda purposes.

In his complaint, the South Sudanese lawyer called on the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) to investigate ‘governance violations,’ revoke the constitutional amendments allegedly applied ‘contrary’ to FIFA standards, and postpone the General Assembly scheduled for June 20 pending a resolution on the complaint.

However, neither the South Sudan Football Association nor FIFA has issued an official response so far.

But historically, observers point out that the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has faced recurring disputes over the body’s lack of transparency and bad governance in recent years.
